  1. Why OEMs Prefer Our Exhaust Wrap Over Traditional Sleeves

    May 20, 2020 8:39 pm Leave a Comment

Whether working with anything from exhaust systems to heavy industrial equipment, exhaust wraps serve as a multipurpose insulating option. While a broad variety of thermal insulating blankets and covers remain on the market, they lack the versatility of Technicon’s Tech Shield Sleeve™ exhaust wrap.

Critical to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) working within a broad range of industries, well-fitted exhaust insulation ensures optimal equipment operation. This diverse range of industries includes construction, agriculture, transportation, and automotive, and so the experts at Technicon understand the importance insulating options that can easily adjust to fit a wide variety of sizes and configurations.

Our Thermal Exhaust Wrap vs Traditional Sleeves

Technicon’s Tech Shield Sleeve™ thermal exhaust pipe wrap provides a broad range of advantages over traditional sleeves. Our products prove particularly useful for unique OEM equipment with easy installation, superior heat resistance, lightweight materials, better fit, and enhanced user safety.

    Quick and Easy Installation

Unlike traditional sleeves, our Tech Shield Sleeve™ thermal exhaust wrap comes easy to install and fitted to suit the shape of your pipe or conduit. Simply slip the wrap around the pipe and clamp the ends to secure the cover. While traditional sleeves demand particular positioning and must be secured with numerous fasteners, Tech Shield Sleeve™ is expected to be 25-30% faster to install at minimum, according to an internal study.

    Heat Resistance

Traditional fiberglass insulation products can only withstand up to 600 °F, at which point they begin to clump and deteriorate. However, Tech Shield Sleeve™ exhaust insulation wrap performs ideally for operating temperatures up to 1500 °F. With high quality insulation able to withstand these extreme temperatures, exhaust products can then undergo intensive particulate filtration in order to meet emissions requirements. Additionally, our Tech Shield Sleeve™ exhibits exceptional temperature drop and consistently passes a rigorous internal gas temperature drop test conducted by a major Fortune 500 manufacturer of engines for automotive and heavy equipment.

    Lighter

Up to 40% lighter than traditional sewn insulating wraps, Tech Shield Sleeve™ offers the same coverage and protection, but lightweight construction makes our product easier to install. These lighter properties make them ideal for use in weight-sensitive equipment in the automotive and aerospace industries, where even a small amount of added weight can significantly affect operational efficiency.

    Better Fit. Better Look.

Designed to fit tightly, Tech Shield Sleeve™ prevents the intrusion of debris and dust that could compromise equipment performance. Unlike sewn wraps that must be stringently designed, our one-size design accommodates a broad range of pipe diameters while still maintaining a reliable fit. The adjustable design of our exhaust heat wrap allows us to offer fewer SKUs to fit a wider range of pipes and exhaust systems. This adaptability saves OEMs time and money otherwise spent on exhaustive prototyping and custom sewing for each product design. Furthermore, our sleek, fitted design also provides a more professional, high–performance aesthetic than traditional sewn heat wraps.

    Safer

Our Tech Shield Sleeve™ provides adequate coverage for any dangerously hot equipment, ensuring the safety and health of equipment operators. Unlike more traditional fiberglass products, our superior design materials make Tech Shield Sleeve™ less irritating to the skin and eyes, and our fitted design and superior temperature drop ensures a more comfortable work area.

  2. Understanding Needs for High-Temperature Exhaust Treatments

    March 18, 2020 5:00 pm Leave a Comment

At Technicon Acoustics, our proprietary Tech Shield Sleeve™ is a braided sleeve exhaust wrap created from a blend of highly texturized fiber and cure in place structural cords that provides an easy to install solution for OEM’s.

What is an Exhaust Wrap Used For?

OEM’s often incorporate exhaust heat wraps or blankets as a means to provide heat protection in underhood applications. Exhaust heat wraps can also be used to maintain exhaust gases temperatures inside the exhaust pipe as they flow to downstream emissions control systems.

Hydraulic Valves in Agriculture EquipmentExhaust treatments are for on- and off-road equipment that must operate reliably in harsh conditions. This may include vehicles such as:

    • Agricultural equipment (tractors, combines)
    • Ambulances and fire trucks
    • Construction equipment (bulldozers, excavators)
    • Heavy trucks (on-road & off-road)
    • Military vehicles

Exhaust treatments protect vital components in the engine bay. They also protect ancillary components, such as wires, connectors, and plastic tubing that might potentially be damaged by their proximity to exhaust components. When installed on exhaust sections that run outside of a vehicle, Tech Shield Sleeve™ also reduces the risk of burns to equipment and vehicle operators.

The Benefits of Our Tech Shield Sleeve™

The texturized fiber used in our Tech Shield Sleeve™ aids in insulating exhaust pipes to maintain necessary heat levels required for diesel particulate filtration, or to lower the surface temperature of the exhaust to ensure nearby components are not damaged. Structural cords added to the braid quickly cure after exposure to high heat from the exhaust pipes.

After only a few minutes of heat exposure, the structural cords are fully cured, ensuring that the exhaust heat wrap will not unravel and fall off if the fibers are damaged or the clamp is lost. While the structural cords braided into the Tech Shield Sleeve™ cure in minutes, they remain flexible before and during installation.

The unique braided structure of Tech Shield Sleeve™ offers a variety of other benefits, including:

    • Limiting open spaces where heat may otherwise escape
    • Facilitates use with a variety of pipe sizes
    • Quick and effective installation
    • Reduced irritation over fiberglass exhaust wraps thanks to our proprietary fiber denier and sizing combination
    • Cold side temperatures up to 70% cooler than the exhaust pipe itself
    • Reduced pipe vibration caused by resonance and airflow
    • Gives exhausts pipes a high-performance look

    Insulation Solutions From Technicon Acoustics

Our proprietary blend of highly texturized fiber and cure-in-place structural cords make the Tech Shield Sleeve™ one of the most unique, versatile, and efficient exhaust pipe wraps available. The unique state-of-the-art design allows for quick, easy installation while providing exceptional performance.
